and north kerry street lasted for much of the evening wednesday. 11 news reporter jennifer franciotti joins us live from the devastating scene this morning with the very latest. good morning, jen. >> good morning. fire investigators are still looking for a cause, and meanwhile, the red cross is insisting at least 12 people who have been displaced by this fire. this fire did happen on wednesday afternoon. firefighters battled two four-alarm fires on split streets within blocks of one another. the first started on north calhoun street, and it's believed, at least preliminary nearly, that employers from the fire ignited the fire that happened on north kerry street. in all, 11 rowhouses burned, most were vacant. but at this point, we're told that the red cross is assisting six families. >> we need money for clothes, food, i think some diapers. one of the families needed diapers. you know, we got them a hotel. >> there is really not much left at this rowhouse, this section of rowhouses. you can see the huge, gaping hole behind me. as i stand here on the side, it is littered with debris and broke

, he heard his wife, jennifer. i heard her say that she would need to get dressed. and need to get her purse and checkbook to get to the bank. hayes drove jennifer to the bank. petrified, she told the teller, she needed to withdraw $15,000. police say hayes and petit returned home where she was sexually assaulted. the girls were tied to their beds. petit said he may have heard the men's voices and moaning. someone said, are you all right? it's going to be all over in a couple of minutes. it was a different tone. it was much more sinister. i felt a jolt of adrenaline. and thought it's now or never in my mind. at that moment, i thought they were going to shoot all of us. petit managed to get his hands untied, but not his feet. i hopped up to the stairs. got to the top and fell. still pound, petit literally rolled to a neighbor's house. his wife and daughters died after the suspects set the home on fire. the men were caught later by police while driving the family's minivan. the defense chose not to cross-examine dr. petit. >> to question him would be disastrous for the hearts of the jury
of murdering a mother and her children. these are the last images of jennifer hawke-petit it alive. this newly released bank surveillance video ticks off the final moments of a horrific crime. petit withdraws $15,000, nervously explaining to the teller she and her family are being held hostage and the money is for ransom. a bank manager called 911. >> we have a lady who is in our bank right now, who says that her husband and children are being held at their house. she is petrified. >> reporter: petit got the money and left the bank at 9:22. >> they told us they wouldn't hurt anybody if she got back there with the money. she believed them. >> reporter: at 9:26 police in unmarked cars to the petits' house. officers are told to block off the street but not to approach. almost 30 minutes later, at 9:54, a badly injured william petit manages to escape to a neighbor's house and a second 911 call is made. >> i got bill petit here, who's hurt, my neighbor. >> he's at your house? >> yes, he's right here. >> reporter: then suspects steven hayes and joshua komisarjevsky allegedly set the house o on fire
